Community Health Fair spring 2023 On 5/13/2023 the Iraqi/Arab Health Board had the pleasure of holding a community health fair in partnership with MAPS MCRC Clinic of Muslim Association of Puget Sound - MAPS. We had the pleasure of hosting 150 community members and 40 children. The event included in-person appointments with MAPS-MCRC Community Clinic. We would like to thank our partners who led the booths for the following activities:Harborview medical center: Covid-19 and flu vaccinationsFred Hutch Center for Community Health Promotion: Colon, lung and breast cancer screeningLarge inflatable figures represent human organsSHIFA organization led by UW medical students: Diabetes and hypertension screeningEssentials First: toiletries and supplies for community members with unstable housing King County Library SystemSeattle Veterinary OutreachUniversity of Washington Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology/women’s health clinicGenentech: pharmaceutical and research services The University of Washington School of Dentistry students: oral health education, oral exams and screeningsZane counseling: Mental health services FDA: food and drugs safetyNurse family partnership program: providing resources and health education to new mothersPublic Health - Seattle & King County: Providing countless resources to community members including hope link and medical insurance The children as well as the grown ups :) enjoyed walking around the inflatable mega lung and colon while learning about anatomy and cancer prevention.Last but not least, we would like to thank our wonderful IAHB team members and volunteers who worked so hard to make it a successful event. Community Conversation Covid-19 Challenges and hesitation in taking the vaccine Zoom meeting The Iraqi Arab Health Board held a second meeting through zoom discussing people’s hesitation in taking Covid-19 vaccine. We wanted to answer people’s questions and understand their fear and hesitation from taking the vaccine. Also, to clear any confusing or misleading concepts about the vaccine. The questions asked during the meeting were: Will Covid-19 Vaccine cause an allergic reaction because I have allergies from antibiotics? Is it true that Moderna vaccine is better for people with allergies than Pfizer vaccine? What is the difference between Moderna and Pfizer vaccine? What is the difference between Johnson & Johnson Janssen vaccine compared to Moderna and Pfizer vaccine? What are the side effects of Covid-19 vaccines? Does it cause diseases? Is there higher risk for people who took the vaccine and got infected by Covid-19 three times? Do we have to take Covid-19 vaccines yearly? What is the benefit of take the booster shot of the vaccine? What is the expiration date on the vaccine card ID stand for? Does Covid-19 cause hair loss? What type of vitamins, food or antibiotics a person should take to boost our immunity and try to avoid being infected with Covid-19? Will Covid-19 vaccine have an effect on people with diagnosed asthma? Is there a long-term effect for taking the vaccine? Wil the vaccine be given to new-born? Community Conversation Covid-19 Challenges and Life After Vaccination Zoom meeting We Organized a meeting that was held through zoom to ask people about how they felt during this pandemic and their feeling towards taking the vaccine. We wanted to understand people in order to provide them with the help needed based on the priorities for each individual. We also wanted to communicate the importance of taking safety measurements to avoid getting infected by Covid-19 and the importance of taking the vaccine by reducing the change of getting the virus.The questions asked during the meeting were:1.How has COVID affected your life?2.Were you nervous or worried about getting the vaccine? Why or why not? 3.How did you come to your decision to be vaccinated? 4.What message would you give to friends and family that may not want to get the vaccine? 5.What are you hopeful for as more people get vaccinated? 6.What do you plan to do now that you are vaccinated?
