The Iraqi/Arab Health Board organized a health Fair for the Iraqi and Arab community in Washington on August 24, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Kent City.
The Health fair has been successful in achieving the desired goals of spreading health awareness among the Iraqi and Arab community, introducing them to the services available by the participants in the health fair, and providing free health services directly on the same day such as blood draws for lipid profile and screening for hypertension and diabetes, and eye check. Medical consultations were provided to those found in need as well as turning a person into the emergency room due to high blood pressure.
The children who attended the fair have had special attention; growth and development were tracked by measuring weight and height according to their family’s wishes. They participated in games and fun activities, and received school supplies.
Sea Mar Community Center, UW medicine, refugee health, Amerigroup, King County – Seattle & public health have participated in the health fair.
The fair was attended by 80 adults and at least 70 children, in addition to 40 volunteers (doctors, nurses, medical assistants, nutritionists, and medical translators).
